Unit 1 Academic Integrity

Academic standards are simple expectations or regulations on the levels of knowledge and abilities that students are expected to achieve while pursuing their studies, particularly at higher learning institutions. They thereby avail the objectives for learning and assessment mechanisms so that students remain at the required academic standard. There are crucial justifications for why academic standards must be maintained. It involves honesty and fairness on the part of all individuals involved in academic work.



Successful participation in higher education requires the development of enabling skills related to listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills applied throughout the processes of communication and research. Besides, students should be able to understand what academic integrity implies. It involves being honest and having respect for work which is not their own, avoiding plagiarism and collusion. Furthermore, it involves respect for intellectual property rights and appropriate use of technologies, including AI, in the responsible use of tools to protect students' academic development with respect.
